We are manufacturers of high-end products and we strive to "build-in" key features and benefits for the customer at the front end. In reality this means at the design stage.
We do not offer, for example, a loading arm to unload a ship; we send in technical consultants who create a detailed engineering study in discussion with the client - establishing what the client wants to achieve e.g. speed of loading/unloading; future development plans for the site; who will operate; who will maintain the plant; service intervals; safety needs; digital control system inputs; telemetry; diagnostics etc.
When we have all of this information, we create a detailed specification that will provide the client the solution they require for both their immediate and future needs - we future proof at the design stage. We then test to simulate life usage, ensuring the optimum solution at lowest life cost is provided to the client. Based on this, we then design these small details into our solution, manufacture, assemble, test and deliver.
It is at the design stage where it is all won or lost.
